First Semester Extra Credit Opportunities
Extra credit is due on Jan. 23. You can earn up to a 3% grade increase on your final semester grade based on your paper. Papers will be graded on connection to historical events/era/context and discussion of what influenced your family to move (either to the United States, within the United States, or outside the United States).
Family History Project
Write a family history covering three or more generations of your family. This assignment is intended to engage you in exploring your own family history in the context U.S. history. Make connections between the experiences of your family and the broader context of United States history such as the Potato Famine of the 1840s, religious persecution in the 1940s in Europe, World War II, Vietnam War, or any other historical event that forced your family to emigrate. Discuss the economic, religious, political, and social aspects of your family history. You may include a family tree. The essay needs to be at least 3 pages in length (double spaced, 12 pt. font, 1 inch margins). If you need to include any secondary sources make sure to cite them.
